Elizabeth (Liz) Blankson - Hemans
1959 - 2025
The Ageing Well with Sickle Cell project team dedicates this page in memory of Elizabeth Blankson-Hemans, a sickle cell warrior who worked tirelessly in the effort for improved quality of life for those living with sickle cell. Liz was a valued member of the Ageing Well with Sickle Cell Steering Committee, supporting us with shaping the trajectory of this project.
We thank you for your drive, your determination, and your perserverance.
May you rest in perfect peace forever and always.
“As a person ageing with sickle cell I am particularly interested in finding out the best way to have as good a quality of life as possible, and to help mainstream this into the treatment program for the management of sickle cell disorder (SCD). The younger patients can start to live in a way that benefits them or mitigates the very serious complications of SCD in later life, which leads to better outcomes for everyone including the health service.”
What outputs would you like this project to deliver?
“Any kind of road map where people will quote the ageing well with sickle cell project as the blueprint for people to aim at as they age in terms of eating well, exercising so that we learn to do what we can, when we can and be able to live with that without pressure.”
